Ghorepani is one of the famous short Trekking routes of Annapurna region. In this trek you walk through many famous Gurung and Magar villages. The scenery of the mountains, lush green forest of Magnolia and Rhododendrons, rolling hills and valleys are wonderful. Ghorepani is famous for Giant Magnolia and huge Rhododendron. The Trek starts from altitude of 1196m (Fedi) and gradually reaches in 3190m (Pun hill) and then steeply descends again. This is an excellent opportunity to experience the culture of traditional life in the Nepali countryside. We will see super panorama views of Annapurna I (8091), Manaslu (8163), Dhaulagiri (8167) and many other famous peaks of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Manaslu ranges from Pun hill. In this route everywhere communication (telephone) is available.

Detail Itinerary
Day 1: Day 1: Arrive
in Kathmandu (1350m)
Our representative
will meet you outside the customs and immigration area at the airport. He or
She will brief you on the immediate arrangements and escort you to your hotel.
The trip leader will hold a short briefing in the hotel regarding trek
arrangements and general orientation to Kathmandu.
Day 2: Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley
Today, we visit the
most historical and Spiritual attractions in Kathmandu which are also listed in
world heritage sites. We visit Durbar Square, Swayambhunath (Monkey temple),
Bouddhanath, which is one of the largest Stupa in the world and the sacred
Hindu temple of Pashupatinath.
Day 3: Fly to Pokhara (823m / 30 min)
After
breakfast, we transfer you to airport to board flight for Pokhara. It is 30 minutes
very exiting flight. During the flight you will get opportunity to see many
mountains. Upon arrival at Pokhara airport our guide will pick up you and
transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon our guide will take you around
Lakeside and other popular places of Pokhara.
Day 4: Drive to Dhampus Phedi (1196m /
40 min), Trek to Dhampus village (1750m / 3 hrs walk)
From Pokhara,
we drive along the Pokhara-Baglung highway to Dhampus Phedi. In Dhampus Phedi,
there are some local hotels and shops. From here, the trail climbs steeply up
through thick Oak forest for about 40-45 minutes to a hotel and rest place.
During the walk we can see many kinds of birds including Vulture. From here it
starts rice field, village area and become less steep. It is nice walk along
the rice field and some houses for 25- 30 minutes and then again start steep
climb through the small forest. There is a local shop and good rest place at
the end of the village. From this shop, it is very steep climb to
Dhampus. Here are several hotels and restaurants in the beginning.
We walk along the ridge line through some hotels then middle of the village.
Many good hotels are after the government high school which is the main part of
Dhampus village. From Dhampus it offers wonderful view of Annapurna, Manaslu
ranges, green rolling hills and valleys. This village is spreading widely. Here
are many hotels, restaurants, shops and beautiful camping grounds. Here is
rough road.
Day 5: Trek to Landruk (1650m / 5 and
half - 6 hr)
The trail leads through
top of the village and gradually gets higher. There is a check post at the end
of Dhampus village. We should show our permit and should entry. The trail
gently ascends through dense forest of giant Magnolia, Oak and Rhododendron to
Pothana (2006m). Pothana is small place surrounded by jungle. Here are several
guesthouses, restaurants, shop and ACAP check post. It has beautiful view of
Annapurna range from here. Now, this place has connected with small rough road.
From Pothana, the trail is gently descends for a while to the nice ground and
then climbs on a stone paved trail through beautiful forest to Deurali. Deurali
is on top of the ridge at an altitude of 2108m. Here are some good guesthouses
and restaurants. We have wonderful views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna south and
Hiunchuli. From Deurali the trail steeply descends down through dense forest to
Bheri Kharka, here we join with small rough road again. We can see many birds,
Orchids and ferns in this area. Here are some guesthouses and restaurants before
small stream. At the end of Bheri Kharka, we cross small stream by bridge
follow the rough road, it is gentle descend and ascend to Tolka. From here it
is gentle descend to the last part of Tolk. This is in deep place and here are
several guesthouses, restaurants, camping ground and one government high
school. We drop steep down for 5 minutes to small stream and cross it by small
suspension bridge. From here it is very easy walk to Landruk. Landruk is big
Gurung village. Here are several nice guesthouses and restaurants. We can see
nice views of the valley, terraces and mountains from here.
Day 6: Trek to Ghandruk (1940m / 3 - 4
hrs)
We walk through
middle of the village passing rice and barley field. The trail for Chhomrong is
separate from end of the village. At the bottom, we cross Modi khola by nice
steel bridge, climb small up and walk through restaurants and guesthouses.
There is a water mill before climb up. We climb very steep up passing through
some small tea shops and villages to Ghandruk. At the end of the village, there
is a good rest place and shop. This is very good place for view and to drink
some cold drinks or Tea. About 30 minutes climbs, we join with main path of
Ghandruk- Birethanti. After few minutes it starts first part of Ghandruk
village. Here are also some hotels, camping ground and restaurants. The main
Ghandruk village is about 15-20 minutes further from here. Ghandruk is a huge
Gurung village at 1940m, the second largest Gurung settlement in Nepal. Here
are many good and standard hotels, restaurants, shops, ACAP headquarter office
and Gurung Museum. This village is also connecting by jeep able road. The views
of Annapurna South from here are outstanding. Machhapuchhre peeps over a
forested ridge.
Day 7: Trek to Tadapani (2722m / 4-5
hrs)
Leaving Ghandruk, we
wolk through middle of the village, passing a traditional Dhiki on the way
which was used to make flavor from grains or clean rice several years ago.
Beyond the Dhiki there are 3 different trails. We follow the left side (up) and
reach on top of the village. The trail ascends through dense forests of
Rhododendron, Oak and small open grounds, cross small stream by bridge then
steep climb up to Bhaisi Kharka (2480m). We can see many birds with beautiful
sounds, many Vultures, Himalayan Crow and lots of wild flowers. There are lots
of Rhododendron and giant Magnolia trees in this forest. In Bhaisi Kharka,
there are 2 guesthouses with restaurants. This is in the middle of forest and
was grazing pasture for water Buffalos long time ago. After Bhaisi Kharka we
climb for a while and then flat and gradual ascend to Tadapani. It is very easy
walk through dense Rhododendron forest. Here are very big Rhododendron and
Magnolia trees. Tadapani is situated on top of the ridge at an altitude of
2722m. It is surrounded by beautiful forest. In Nepali Tada means far and Pani
means water. Here are 8-9 guesthouses and restaurants. Many Tibetan handicraft
shops are lined in the street side. We have wonderful views of Machhapuchhre,
Annapurna south, Hiunchuli and green rolling hills from Tadapani. This is
beautiful place but cold. Here is also several camping ground in hotel complex.
We can see many kinds of birds and wild flowers around Tadapani.
Day 8: Trek to Ghorepani (2860m / 5
hrs)
Leaving Tadapani, we
descend down to the small river. At the bottom, we cross this river
by nice cement bridge and climb steep up through Pine and Rhododendron forest
to small top. We can see Longur monkeys and many birds including Vulture in
this area. There is a hotel and good rest place at the top. We can see
Annapurna south, Machhapuchhre from here. The trail is flat, gentle ascend and
descend through the beautiful Rhododendron forest to Banthanti. Banthanti is in
deep place at bottom of the rocky cliff. Here are some guesthouse and
restaurants. After Banthati, we gradually ascend along the small stream through
the narrow gorge and climb up to Deurali. The path is gentle ascend, flat and
small climb in many places and cross small stream several times by bridge.
Deurali (3180m) is beautiful place situated on top of the ridge and surrounded
by forest. Here are 2 hotels with restaurants. The trail ascends to the ridge
line through beautiful Pine and Rhododendron forest. We have wonderful views of
Annapurna south, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna Phyang, Nilgiri, Tukche
peak, Dhaulagiri, Putali Himal, green forest and beautiful valley from this
ridge line. About 40-50 minutes' walk from Deurali, we arrive in
beautiful rest place. From here the trail steeply descends down. About 15
minutes later, we leave the ridge line and follow right side down steps to
Ghorepani. Ghorepani (2860m) is big collection of many hotels. It is on crest
of the hill (ridge). Here are many good hotels, restaurants; shops and police
check post in the end of the village. In Nepali Ghora means horse and Pani
means water. This place is the trail junction of Tadapani, Birethanti and
Tatopani. From Ghorepani it offers magnificent views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna
range and lush green valley. Poon hill is very famous view point of Ghorepani.
Day 9: Visit Poon hill (3190m), trek
to Hille (1520m / 5 hrs)
This morning, we
wake up early in the morning to go Poon hill. Leaving the hotel, we climb steep
up through the small forest of Rhododendron and Pine. In some places there are
open places and new stone stairs. There is a gate on the way near Television
tower. This gate is open at 4 am in the summer and 5 am in winter. From
Ghorepani to Poon hill it takes 1 hr. Poon hill is on top of the hill. Here is
a steel view tower. From here, we have panorama views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna
and Manaslu range. We can see very nice sun rise view and beautiful valleys
including Kali Gandaki. This is a best point for mountain views. We come back
down to Ghorepani for breakfast.
After breakfast, we
walk through the middle of market and register our permit in the police check
post. We walk through nice stone steps to lower Ghorepani and then gradually
descend through beautiful Rhododendron and pine forest to Nangethanti (2430m),
a small settlement; here are some hotels and restaurants. We cross small stream
by bridge and climb for a while, here is also one restaurant. From here, we
gently descend through the beautiful forest and cross Bhurungdi khola by old cement
bridge. There is also a local tea shop. After bridge the path gets higher from
the river. We gently ascend for a while and then gradually descend to
Banthanti. It is very nice walk through beautiful forest. Here are some hotels
and restaurants in Banthanti (2210m). The tip of Machhapuchhre appears from
behind the ridge line. We can see many Vultures and other birds in this area.
After Banthanti, we walk through Barley and Millet field, pass some houses and
descend down to Ulleri. The scenery of the valley, rice terraces, villages and
Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre are wonderful. Ulleri (1960m) is large village here
are many nice hotels and restaurants. Leaving this village, we steeply drop
down to Tikhedunga. It is long downhill and all the way is stone steps. Here is
long suspension bridge above Bhurungdi Khola at the bottom. From here, it is
just 10 minute walk to main Tikhedunga. There is another suspension bridge
before main Tikhedunga. Tikhedunga (1540m) is small nice place but it is in
deep place. Here are many guesthouses and restaurants with camping grounds.
Hille is about 15 minute easy walk to Hille. Hille (1520m) is more open and
wide place. Here are many good guesthouses, restaurants, shops and lots of rice
fields with beautiful camping ground. From here it is wonderful view of many
hills and rice terraces.
Day 10: Trek to Birethanti (1047m / 3
hrs), drive to Pokhara (1 hrs 30 min)
From Hille, we walk
along the rough road and descend down to Sudame and then follow the Bhurungdi
Khola. Here are several hotels in Sudame. After 30-40 minute walk from Sudame,
we arrive in Ramghai. Ramghai is also beautiful small village. Here
are some good restaurants and hotel. Few minutes later from here the rough road
gets little higher from the river bank. This is new constructing road, here are
run just few local Jeeps. We walk along this road to Birethanti.
Birethanti is big
place; here are many good hotels, restaurants and big market. The direct way
from Ghandruk joins here. Here is a check post of TIMS. Birethanti is divided
in 2 parts by Modi Khola. Here is taxi stand and waiting for passengers. Many
tourists and local people drive to Pokhara from here. Nayapul is 15 minutes
drive from here. We drive through Nayapul, Lumley, Naudanda and Dhampus Phedi and
then Pokhara. This is beautiful drive and sceneries are wonderful during our
journey.
Day 11: Drive to Chitwan (5 hrs)
From Pokhara, we
drive along the main Pokhara – Kathmandu highway to Mugling. We drive through
many beautiful villages and small towns. From Muglin, we leave the main highway
and turn towards right side then follow another highway to Chitwan. Chitwan
National Park is very famous for its wild animals and birds. It was declared
UNESCO Natural Heritage site in 1984. There are around 600 plant species, 56
different mammals, 539 kinds of birds and 49 amphibians and reptiles found in
the Park. The highlights are Asian one horned Rhinoceros and Royal Bengal
Tigers.
Day 12: Tour around national Park
Boating: We boat in Narayani
River by traditional wooden boat. It will be about 1 hr and during our boating,
we can see many Crocodile, Rhesus Monkeys and many birds.
Elephant ride: This is also very
interesting. The Maute will take us in the forest and will try to show us wild
animals. During our elephant ride, we can see many wild animals including one
horned Rhino, Deer and Monkeys.
Bird watching: In the late
afternoon, you will take in the jungle area to see the birds. The hotel use
professional bird guide for this.
Cultural Tour: For this you will
take around Tharu villages. You can see typical Tharu village life.
Cultural show: In the evening the
hotel organize cultural program. Specially, the local people perform their
cultural dance.
Day 13: Fly or drive back to
Kathmandu.
There is an airport
in Bharatpur from where we can fly back to Kathmandu. It is very short flight.
Or we can drive back to Kathmandu. It is about 5 hrs drive. In the afternoon we
visit the Thamel market for shopping and have farewell dinner in typical Nepali
restaurant with cultural program.
Day 14: Departure from
Nepal.
We will escort you
to airport for your international flight.
